Document Format
This Document is made up of Tasks that can be accomplished
through the Configuration Wizard.  Each task is then broken
down into steps for completing the task.

Open a File
 1. Press CONTROL+O to open the File Open dialog.
 2. Type a known file name in the edit field.
 3. Or press TAB to move to the File Name list box and use the
 4. ARROWS to select the file that you want opened.
 5. Press ENTER to open the file.
 6. After you make changes, press CONTROL+S to save the file.
 7. Create a New File
 8. Press CONTROL+N to open a new file.
 9. The new file opens as an untitled file.
10. See Save a File  to name the file.

Save a File
 1. Press CONTROL+S to save your file.
 2. When a file is untitled, CONTROL+S opens the Save As dialog.
 3. The dialog opens with the PC Cursor in the edit field.  Type
    a known file name in the edit field.  Press ENTER to assign
    this new file to the name entered in the edit field.
 4. To save the same changes to more than one file, press
 5. CONTROL+A to open the Save As dialog.  When the dialog
    opens, type another file name in the edit field.
 6. If you previously saved changes to a specified file, a
    caution dialog appears.  JAWS asks if you want to replace
    the file with your new changes.  If you do not want to
    replace the existing file, press N to choose the No button.
 7. To replace the existing file with your new changes, press Y
    to choose the YES button.

note:  If you want to save all the files with the same
       configuration, see Open the Default File.

Open the Default File
 1. Press CONTROL+D to Open the Default File.
 2. Changes made to this file affect the settings of all
    the applications installed in your computer.  JAWS uses
    the settings in the Default file for all applications
    until you open a file and set new parameters to some
    specified running application.
 3. After you make changes, press CONTROL+S to save the file.
    Please Note: If you run an application and it does not
    exhibit the changes you saved in Default, there are
    overriding settings in this application's control file
    that you must also change.  See Open a File.

Restore Settings
 If you save unsatisfactory changes, press ALT+R to move
 to the Reset Options menu bar item.
    1.  Press F to Reset to Factory Defaults.  This option
        restores the file to the Henter-Joyce predetermined
        settings.
    2.  Press D to Reset to Defaults.  This option removes any
        new changes since the last save and restores to the
        previously saved configuration.

Change the amount of text JAWS echoes as you type
 1. Press ALT+S, then U to open the User Options dialog.
 2. The dialog opens in the Typing Echo radio button group.
 3. Use the ARROWS to select the desired item in the group.
 4. Choose from the three available options of Words,
    Characters, and Off.
    a.  Choose Words to hear JAWS echo words after you
        press the SPACEBAR or ENTER.
    b.  Choose Characters to have the text repeated for each
        letter or character typed.
    c.  Choose Off to hear no speech as you type.
    Note:  The default setting is Characters.
 5. When you are through making changes to this dialog,
    press ENTER to select the OK button and close the dialog.
 6. See Save a File  to save your changes.
 Please note: You can change the Typing Echo by pressing
 INSERT+2, but the changes are not saved when you close the
 application.

Change what JAWS echoes as text is displayed on the screen
 1. Press ALT+S, then U to open the User Options dialog.
 2. Press ALT+S to move to the Screen Echo radio button
    group.
 3. Use the ARROWS to select the desired item in the group.
 4. Choose from the options of Echo All Text, Echo
    Highlighted Text, and Echo No Text.
 5. Choose Echo All Text to hear JAWS echo all text as it is
    displayed on the screen.
 6. Choose Echo Highlighted Text to have JAWS read only text
    that becomes highlighted.
 Warning! When you choose Echo No Text, you hear no speech
 as text is echoed on the screen.
 The default setting is Echo Highlighted Text.
 7. When you are through making changes to this dialog,
    press ENTER to select the OK button and close the dialog.
 8. See Save a File  to save your changes.
 Please note: You can change the Screen Echo by pressing
 INSERT+S, but the changes are not saved when you close the
 application.

Interrupt speech when you use reading keys
 1. Press ALT+S, then U to open the User Options dialog.
 2. Press ALT+R  to move to the Reading Interrupt check box.
 3. Press the spacebar to toggle this option.
 Note:  This option interrupts speech when you press reading
 keys, such as the ARROWS or any JAWS key combination.
 The default setting is checked.
 4. When you are through making changes to this dialog,
    press ENTER to select the OK button and close the dialog.
 5. See Save a File  to save your changes.

Interrupt speech when you use typing keys
 1. Press ALT+S, then U to open the User Options dialog.
 2. Press ALT+T  to move to the Typing Interrupt check box.
 3. Press the spacebar to toggle this option.
    This option interrupts speech when you type text.
    The default setting is checked.
 4. When you are through making changes to this dialog,
    press ENTER to select the OK button and close the dialog.
 5. See Save a File  to save your changes.

Change the behavior of keys that you hold down
 1. Press ALT+S, then U to open the User Options dialog.
 2. Press ALT+K  to move to the Key Repeat check box.
 3. Press the spacebar to toggle this option.
    Note:  Any key that you hold down is repeated when this
    option is checked.
    The default setting is not checked.
 4. When you are through making changes to this dialog,
    press ENTER to select the OK button and close the dialog.
 5. See Save a File  to save your changes.

Change the behavior of the INSERT key
 1. Press ALT+S, then U to open the User Options dialog.
 2. Press ALT+I to move to the INSERT Key Mode check box.
 3. Press the spacebar to toggle this option.
    Note:  Any key that you press immediately after the
    INSERT key performs the INSERT key combination command
    when this option is checked.
    The default setting is not checked.
 4. When you are through making changes to this dialog,
    press ENTER to select the OK button and close the dialog.
 5. See Save a File  to save your changes.

Change the way punctuation is spoken
 1. Press ALT+S, then T to open the Text Processing dialog.
 2. The dialog opens in the Punctuation Mode radio button group.
 3. Use the ARROWS to select the desired item in the group.
 4. Choose between having punctuation Controlled By
    Synthesizer or Controlled By JAWS.
    Note:  JAWS enhances the way your synthesizer speaks
    punctuation.  When you choose the synthesizer option,
    you lose these improvements.
    The default setting is Controlled by JAWS.
 5. When you are through making changes to this dialog,
    press ENTER to select the OK button and close the dialog.
 6. See Save a File  to save your changes.

Change the number of times a contiguously repeated character
is spoken
 1. Press ALT+S, then T to open the Text Processing dialog.
 2. Press ALT+F to move to the Filter Repeated Characters
    radio button group.
 3. Use the ARROWS to select the desired item in the group.
    Note:  This option allows you to determine the number of
    times a contiguously character is repeated.
 4. Choose from settings of Three, Four, Five, Six or All.
    The default setting is Three.
 5. When you are through making changes to this dialog,
    press ENTER to select the OK button and close the dialog.
 6. See Save a File  to save your changes.

Change the way JAWS speaks numbers
 1. Press ALT+S, then T to open the Text Processing dialog.
 2. Press ALT+N to move to the Number Processing radio
    button group.
 3. Use the ARROWS to select the desired item in the group.
 4. Choose from settings of Off, Single Digits, Pairs, and
    Full Numbers.
    The default setting is Off.
 5. When you are through making changes to this dialog,
    press ENTER to select the OK button and close the dialog.
 6. See Save a File  to save your changes.

Change how JAWS describes list items
 1. Press ALT+S, then T to open the Text Processing dialog.
 2. Press ALT+L to move to the List Item group box.
 3. Use the ARROWS to select the desired item in the group.
 4. Choose Say Selected to have JAWS say the selected item.
 5. Choose Say Not Selected to have JAWS say the not
    selected item.
    a.  Choose Say Both to have JAWS say the selected item
        and the not selected item.

    b.  Choose Say None to silence this option.
    The default setting is Say Not Selected.
 6. Press ALT+E to move to the Speak Item State First check
    box in the List Item group box.
 7. Press the spacebar to toggle this option.
    Note:  Choose this option to have JAWS say the state
    before identifying the list item by name.
    The state is spoken after the name when this option is
    not checked.
    The default setting is checked.
 8. When you are through making changes to this dialog,
    press ENTER to select the OK button and close the dialog.
 9. See Save a File  to save your changes.

Change how JAWS speaks words with embedded capital letters
 1. Press ALT+S, then T to open the Text Processing dialog.
 2. Press ALT+M  to move to the Mixed Case Processing check
    box.
 3. Press the spacebar to toggle this option.
    Note:  Choose this option to have JAWS say words with
    mixed capital and small letters as separate words.
    The default setting is checked.
 4. When you are through making changes to this dialog,
    press ENTER to select the OK button and close the dialog.
 5. See Save a File  to save your changes.

Change the way words are pronounced
 1. Press ALT+S, then T to open the Text Processing dialog.
 2. Press ALT+D to move to the Dictionary Processing check
    box.
 3. Press the spacebar to toggle this option.
    Note:  Choose this option to have JAWS process all words
    through a global or application specific dictionary.
    The default setting is checked.
 4. When you are through making changes to this dialog,
    press ENTER to select the OK button and close the dialog.
 5. See Save a File  to save your changes.

Change how JAWS describes windows
 1. Press ALT+S, then T to open the Text Processing dialog.
 2. When the dialog opens, press ALT+S to move to the Speak
    Window Type First check box.
 3. Press the spacebar to toggle this option.
    Note:  Choose this option to have JAWS say the window
    type  before the window title or text.
    The default setting is not checked.
 4. Press ALT+P to move to the Speak Window State First
    check box.
 5. Press the spacebar to toggle this option.
    Note:  Choose this option to have JAWS say the window
    state  before the window title or text.
    The default setting is not checked.
    Note:  When both options are not checked, JAWS says the
    window title, before the type or state.
 6. When you are through making changes to this dialog,
    press ENTER to select the OK button and close the dialog.
 7. See Save a File  to save your changes.

Assign an unknown window class to a known window class
 1. When you are in a running application with the active
    cursor on an unknown window, press INSERT+7 to open the
    Window Classes dialog.  When the dialog opens, the edit
    field displays the window class of the item on which you
    placed the cursor.
 2. Press TAB to move to the Assign to list box.
 3. Use the ARROWS to select a known window class that you
    want to assign to the unknown class.
 4. Press ENTER to select the Add Class button that assigns
    the selected known window class item to the unknown
    class. This assigned combination appears in the Assigned
    Classes list box.  The ADD Class button is grayed until
    you place text in the edit field and select an item from
    the Assign to list box.
 5. If dissatisfied with a window class assignment, press
    ALT+S to move to the Assigned Classes list box.  If
    there is more than one entry in the list box, press
    CONTROL+END to select the latest entry in the list.
    Press ALT+R to select the Remove Class button.  This
    button is grayed until you select an item from the
    Assigned Classes list box.
 6. Press ENTER to select the OK button and close the dialog.
 7. See Save a File  to save your changes.

Assign several unknown window classes to known window
classes
 1. Press INSERT+6 to start the Configuration Manager from
    within the application.  If you do not want to run the
    application, see Open a File.
 2. Press ALT+S, then W to open the Window Classes dialog.
    The dialog opens in the New Class edit field.
 4. Type the name of the unknown window class.
 5. Press TAB to move to the Assign to list box.
 6. Use the ARROWS to select a known window class that you
    want to assign to the unknown class.
 7. Press ENTER to select the Add Class button that assigns
    the selected known window class item to the unknown
    class. This assigned combination appears in the Assigned
    Classes list box.  The ADD Class button is grayed until
    you place text in the edit field and select an item from
    the Assign to list box.
 8. Repeat this process for each class that you want to
    assign.
 9. If dissatisfied with a window class assignment, press
    ALT+S to move to the Assigned Classes list box.  If there
    is more than one entry in the list box, use the ARROWS to
    select the assigned combination that you want to remove.
    Press ALT+R to select the Remove Class button.  This button
    is grayed until you select an item from the Assigned
    Classes list box.
10. Press ENTER to select the OK button and close the dialog.
11. See Save a File  to save your changes.

Change which graphics JAWS identifies
 1. Press ALT+S, then G to open the Graphics and Symbols
    dialog.
 2. The dialog opens in the Graphic Verbosity radio button
    group.
 3. Use the ARROWS to select the desired item in the group.
 4. Choose from the options of No Graphics, Labeled
    Graphics, or All Graphics.
    a.  Choose No Graphics to have no graphics identified.
    b.  Choose Labeled Graphics to hear only labeled graphics.
    c.  Choose All Graphics to hear both labeled and
        unlabeled graphics.  JAWS identifies unlabeled graphics
        by saying "graphic xxx", where xxx is any three digit
        number.
    The default setting is All Graphics.
 5. When you are through making changes to this dialog,
    press ENTER to select the OK button and close the dialog.
 6. See Save a File  to save your changes.

Land the JAWS Cursor on very large or very small graphics
 1. Press ALT+S, then G to open the Graphics and Symbols dialog.
 2. Press ALT+D to move to the Graphic Dimensions radio
    button group.
 3. Type the desired minimum graphics width you want JAWS to
    locate in the X Minimum edit field.
 4. Press TAB to move to the X Maximum edit field and type
    the maximum graphics width that you want JAWS to find.
 5. Press TAB to move to the Y Minimum edit field and type
    the minimum graphics height that you want JAWS to locate.
 6. Press TAB to move to the Y Maximum edit field and type
    the maximum graphics height that you want JAWS to find.
 Please Note: The minimum value entered must be a whole
 number between 4 and 200.  The maximum value entered
 must be a whole number between 16 and 400.  If the
 number entered is incorrect, a caution dialog appears.
 The default values are 10 for the minimum values and 64 for
 the maximum values.
 7. When you are through making changes to this dialog,
    press ENTER to select the OK button and close the dialog.
 8. See Save a File  to save your changes.

Change the way JAWS speaks ANSI characters
 1. Press ALT+S, then G to open the Graphics and Symbols
    dialog.
 2. Press ALT+A to move to the ANSI Character Verbosity
    radio button group.
 3. Use the ARROWS to select the desired item in the group.
 4. Choose None to have JAWS echo no ANSI characters.
 5. Choose Type Echo, Say Char, Spell Word to hear ANSI
    characters echoed when you type text, spell words, or
    perform a Say Character.
    a.  Choose Also Say Word to hear ANSI characters echoed
        when you type text, spell words, or perform Say
        Characters and Say Words.
    b.  Choose Also Say Line to hear ANSI characters echoed
        when you type text, spell words, or perform any reading
        function accept a Say All..
    c.  Choose Also Say All to hear ANSI characters echoed
        when you type text, spell words, or perform any reading
        function including a Say All..
 6. When you are through making changes to this dialog,
    press ENTER to select the OK button and close the dialog.
 7. See Save a File  to save your changes.

Change the graphics mode to read toolbar buttons
 1. Press ALT+S, then G to open the Graphics and Symbols
    dialog.
 2. Press ALT+M to move to the Graphics Mode check box.
 3. Press the spacebar to toggle this option.
 4. This option switches between standard graphic mode and
    active graphic mode.
    Note:  If JAWS does not read all the tool bar buttons,
    check this box to activate active graphics mode. The
    default setting is not checked, which is standard
    graphics mode. 5. When you are through making changes to
    this dialog, press ENTER to select the OK button and
    close the dialog.
 6. See Save a File  to save your changes.
 Please note: You can change the Graphics Mode from standard
 to active by pressing  INSERT+4.  This command toggles
 between active graphics and standard graphics mode. When
 finished reading the tool bar buttons you can easily switch
 back to standard graphics mode.

Change the vertical caret dimensions
Note:  JAWS reads most information with the default
settings.  Only change the caret dimensions if you need to
read very large or very small fonts.
 1. Press ALT+S, then C to open the Cursor Options dialog.
 2. The dialog opens in the Vertical Caret Dimensions group
    box.  Changes made to this group box are for
    applications that use a vertical caret.  See Change the
    horizontal caret dimensions if you want to make changes
    to an application that uses a horizontal caret.

 3. Type the minimum caret height you want JAWS to locate in
    the Y Minimum edit field.  The default setting is 6.
 4. Press TAB to move to the Y Maximum edit field and type
    the maximum caret height that you want JAWS to find.
    The default setting is 29.
 5. Press TAB to move to the X Minimum edit field and type
    the minimum caret width that you want JAWS to locate.
    The default setting is 1.
 6. Press TAB to move to the X Maximum edit field and type
    the maximum caret width that you want JAWS to find.  The
    default setting is 3.
 7. When you are through making changes to this dialog,
    press ENTER to select the OK button and close the
    dialog.
 8. See Save a File  to save your changes.
Please Note: The minimum Y value you enter must be a whole
number between 4 and 50.  The maximum Y value you enter must
be a whole number between 4 and 100.  The X value you enter
must be a whole number between 1 and 5.  If the number
entered is incorrect, a caution dialog appears.

Change the horizontal caret dimensions
JAWS reads most information with the default settings.  Only
change the caret dimensions if you need to read very large
or very small fonts.
 1. Press ALT+S, then C to open the Cursor Options dialog.
 2. When the dialog opens, press ALT+H to move to the
    Horizontal Caret Dimensions group box.  Make changes in
    this group box for applications that use a horizontal
    caret.  See Change the vertical caret dimensions if you
    want to make changes to an application that uses a
    vertical caret.
 3. Type the minimum caret height you want JAWS to locate in
    the Y Minimum edit field.  The default setting is 1.
 4. Press TAB to move to the Y Maximum edit field and type
    the maximum caret height that you want JAWS to find.
    The default setting is 4.
 5. Press TAB to move to the X Minimum edit field and type
    the minimum caret width that you want JAWS to locate.
    The default setting is 4.
 6. Press TAB to move to the X Maximum edit field and type
    the maximum graphics height that you want JAWS to find.
    The default setting is 14.
 7. When you are through making changes to this dialog,
    press ENTER to select the OK button and close the
    dialog.
 8. See Save a File  to save your changes.
Please Note: The minimum Y value that you enter must be a
whole number between 1 and 5.  The maximum Y value that you
enter must be a whole number between 1 and 30.  The minimum
X value that you enter must be a whole number between 4 and
10. The maximum X value that you enter must be a whole
    number between 4 and 30.If the number entered is
    incorrect, a caution dialog appears.

Change the caret dimensions of a block cursor
 1. Press ALT+S, then C to open the Cursor Options dialog.
 2. When the dialog opens, press ALT+H to move to the
    Horizontal Caret Dimensions group box.  Make the
    following changes in this group box for applications
    that use a block caret.
 3. Type 5 in the Y Minimum edit field.
 4. Press TAB to move to the Y Maximum edit field and type
    30.
 5. Press TAB to move to the X Minimum edit field and type
    5.
 6. Press TAB to move to the X Maximum edit field and type
    30.
 7. When you are through making changes to this dialog,
    press ENTER to select the OK button and close the
    dialog.
 8. See Save a File   to save your changes.
Please Note: For block cursors the Y values must equal the X
values.  The minimum X and Y values that you enter must be
the number 4 or 5.  The maximum X and Y values that you
enter must be a whole number between 4 and 30.  If the
number entered is incorrect, a caution dialog appears.

Change the rate in which JAWS detects the caret
 1. JAWS reads most information accurately with the default
    settings.  Only change the caret detection rate if JAWS
    is unable to find the caret.
 2. Press ALT+S, then C to open the Cursor Options dialog.
 3. When the dialog opens, press ALT+A to move to the Caret
    Detection group box.
 4. Type a number between 1 and 5 in the Caret Detect edit
    field to change the number of times the cursor blinks
    before JAWS locates the caret.  The default setting is
    2.
 5. Press TAB to move to the Caret Detect Time Out edit
    field and type a number between 100 and 1000.  Change
    the number of milliseconds JAWS will take to look for
    the caret.  The default setting is 250.
 6. Press TAB to move to the Caret Blink Rate edit field and
    type a number from 53 to 1000.  Change the number of
    milliseconds the cursor blinks on and off.  The fastest
    blink rate is 53, the default setting.
 7. Press ALT+T to move to the Caret Time Out edit field and
    type a number from 53 to 1000.  Change the number of
    milliseconds that JAWS waits before invalidating the
    caret. The default setting is 1000.
 8. When you are through making changes to this dialog,
    press ENTER to select the OK button and close the
    dialog.
 9. See Save a File  to save your changes.

Change the way characters are displayed on your Braille
display
 1. Press ALT+S, then B to open the Braille Options dialog.
 2. The dialog opens in the edit field of the Translation
    Table combo box.
 3. Press ALT+DOWN ARROW to open the list box.  The list box
    contains the names of the available Braille translation
    tables.
 4. Use the UP and DOWN ARROWS to select from the available
    options.
 5. Press ALT+UP ARROW to choose the selected option and
    close the list box.
The default setting is US437.
 6. When you are through making changes to this dialog,
    press ENTER to select the OK button and close the
    dialog.
 7. See Save a File  to save your changes.

Change the rate of the Braille Cursor
 1. Press ALT+S, then B to open the Braille Options dialog.
 2. When the dialog opens, press ALT+B to move to the Blink
    Rate edit field.  This option allows you to choose the
    rate at which the Braille Cursor blinks.
 3. Type a number between 0 and 1000 in the edit field.
The default setting is 500.
 5. When you are through making changes to this dialog,
    press ENTER to select the OK button and close the
    dialog.
 6. See Save a File  to save your changes.

Change what attributes are identified by dots 7 and 8
 1. Press ALT+S, then B to open the Braille Options dialog.
 2. Press ALT+M to move to the Braille Marking radio button
    group.  When you choose an option from this group, dots
    7 and 8 are raised to indicate a character contains the
    specified attribute.
 3. Use the ARROWS to select the desired item in the group.
    a.  Choose None to have no indication that text contains
        different attributes.
    b.  Choose Highlight to have highlighted text
        identified.
    c.  Choose Bold to have bolded text identified.
    d.  Choose Underline to have underlined text identified.
    e.  Choose Italic to have italicized text identified.
    f.  Choose Strikeout to have strikethrough text
        identified.
    g.  Choose All to have dots 7 and 8 raise when text
        contains any attribute.
The default setting is Highlight.
 4. When you are through making changes to this dialog,
    press ENTER to select the OK button and close the dialog.
 5. See Save a File  to save your changes.

Change between 8 dot and 6 dot Braille display
 1. Press ALT+S, then B to open the Braille Options dialog.
 2. Press ALT+8 to move to the 8 Dot Braille check box.
 3. Press the spacebar to toggle this option.
Note:  When you check this option, the Braille display text
is in 8 dot Braille. When the option is not checked, the
Braille display text is in 6 dot Braille.
The default setting is checked.

Change the way the Braille Cursor is identified
 1. Press ALT+S, then B to open the Braille Options dialog.
 2. Press ALT+A to move to the All Dot Braille Cursor check
    box.
 3. Press the spacebar to toggle this option.
Note:  When you check this option, all the dots identify the
Braille Cursor. When the option is not checked, dots 7 and 8
identify the Braille Cursor.
The default setting is not checked.

Stop sending text to the Braille display
 1. Press ALT+S, then B to open the Braille Options dialog.
 2. Press ALT+S to move to the Braille Sleep Mode check box.
 3. Press the spacebar to toggle this option.
Note:  When you check this option, JAWS stops sending text
to the Braille display. When the option is not checked, JAWS
sends text to the Braille display.
The default setting is not checked.

Change the delay before JAWS speaks newly written text
Important: Do not change these settings without explicate
instructions from Henter-Joyce technical support.
 1. Press ALT+S, then A to open the Advanced Options dialog.
 2. Press ALT+T to move to the Text Out Delay edit field.
 3. Type a number in the edit field.  This number determines
    the number of milliseconds JAWS waits before speaking
    newly written text.
The default setting is 0.

Change the way JAWS reads tables
 1. Press ALT+S, then A to open the Advanced Options dialog.
 2. Press ALT+L to move to the Include Lines check box.
 3. Use the spacebar to toggle this option.
Note:  Choose this option if JAWS has a problem reading
tables in word processors and spreadsheets.
The default setting is not checked.

Change system modal dialogs to modeless
Important: Do not change these settings without explicate
instructions from Henter-Joyce technical support.
 1. Press ALT+S, then A to open the Advanced Options dialog.
 2. Press ALT+I to move to the Ignore Set Sys Modal Window
    check box.  When this option is chosen, JAWS changes
    system modal windows to modeless windows.  Use the
    spacebar to toggle this option.  The default setting is
    checked.
 3. Press ALT+S to move to the Speak Sys Modal Message Box
    check box.  JAWS reads the message box when this box is
    checked, unless the Ignore Set Sys Modal Window check
    box is unchecked.  Use the spacebar to toggle this
    option.  The default setting is checked.
Warning:  If the Ignore Set Sys Modal Window check box is
unchecked, and a system modal dialog appears, you hear no
speech until the dialog is closed.

Change the number of pixels the JAWS Cursor moves per space
Important: Do not change these settings without explicate
instructions from Henter-Joyce technical support.
 1. Press ALT+S, then A to open the Advanced Options dialog.
 2. The dialog opens in the Pixels Per Space edit field.
 3. Type a number in the edit field.  This number determines
    the number of pixels the JAWS Cursor moves per space.
    The default setting is 8.

Change the number of pixels that JAWS requires to identify
underlines
Important: Do not change these settings without explicate
instructions from Henter-Joyce technical support.
 1. Press ALT+S, then A to open the Advanced Options dialog.
 2. Press ALT+U to move to the Underline Proximity edit field
 3. Type a number in the edit field.  This number sets the
    distance a line must be below text before JAWS
    identifies it as an underline.
    The default setting is 1.

Change the number of pixels required by the JAWS Cursor to
simulate a mouse click
Important: Do not change these settings without explicate
instructions from Henter-Joyce technical support.
 1. Press ALT+S, then A to open the Advanced Options dialog.
 2. Press ALT+X to move to the Mouse Click Tolerance X edit
    field.  The number you type in this edit field
    determines the number of pixels to the right of the JAWS
    Cursor at which a mouse click can be simulated.
    The default setting is 1.
 3. Press ALT+Y to move to the Mouse Click Tolerance Y edit
    field.  The number you type in this edit field determines
    the number of pixels below the JAWS Cursor at which a mouse
    click can be simulated.
    The default setting is -2.

Change the way JAWS searches for prompts
 1. Press ALT+S, then A to open the Advanced Options dialog.
 2. When the dialog opens, press ALT+E to move to the Search
    for Prompts radio button group.
 3. Choose from the three available options of Minimum,
    Extended, and Maximum Search.
    a.  When you choose Minimum, JAWS says the prompt when
        the text is touching the control.
    b.  Choose Extended to have JAWS say the prompt when the
        text is on the same line as the control.
    c. Choose Maximum to have JAWS say the prompt when the
       text is on the same line or the previous line of the
       control.
    The default setting is Extended.
 4. When you are through making changes to this dialog,
    press ENTER to select the OK button and close the dialog.
 5. See Save a File to save your changes.
